Connect a team
Using Microsoft Teams Assignments in a learning management system (LMS) adds an unparalleled level of organization to any class. Educators can create, distribute and manage Teams assignments right within their LMS, and grades are automatically updated into the LMS grade book. This integration helps reduce cognitive load for learners and saves time for educators.
Important
Be sure to have your M365 and LMS admins turn on this integration.
Sometimes it's useful to bring all learners from a single LMS course into a class team to collaborate. But other times, it can be more beneficial to organize learners into sections, groups, or even lab teams.
A secondary educator has two class sections that are part of one LMS course. The educator might want or need to keep them separate for communication and privacy purposes. The content they want to assign to each group is generally the same, but the option for variation is useful. There’s a class team roster for each section.
Connect a class team to an LMS course
Note
Some steps might vary depending on the LMS.
In the LMS:
- Go to the LMS course.
- Select Microsoft Teams Assignments.
- If you haven't already connected your class team to an LMS course, you’ll be prompted to do so. You need to sign in with your Microsoft 365 account.
- Select the Microsoft class teams that you want to link to the LMS course.
- Go to the LMS course assignments list. This feature is called:
- Assignments in Canvas and D2L Brightspace
- Materials in Schoology Learning
- New Content item in Blackboard
- Select Add a new Teams Assignment.
Important
If you disconnect a team, assignments from that team can no longer linked to the LMS. Class teams that are disconnected from a LMS course aren't deleted in Microsoft Teams.
