Exercise - Create and manage work orders

These exercises use the USMF company, Contoso Entertainment USA.

You are the operations manager for Contoso and are in charge of managing the manufacturing equipment and all maintenance that relates to assets within the plant.

Create a work order

It’s been reported that the Additive Hopper, H-301B has had a breakdown. You have been tasked with creating a work order to have it repaired immediately.

  1. Go to Asset management > Assets > All assets.
  2. Select the H-301B asset from the list.
  3. On the Asset tab, in the View section, select Maintenance requests to see if any active requests are on the asset.
  4. Close that page after viewing.
  5. In the Preventive section, select Maintenance schedule to see if any maintenance is due.
  6. Close that page after viewing.
  7. In the Work order section, select Work orders.
  8. On the Work order page, select New.
  9. Select Corrective for the Work order type.
  10. For Description, enter Electrical Malfunction.
  11. In the Maintenance job type field, select Repair.
  12. For Trade, select Electrician.
  13. For Service level, select 1 for critical.
  14. Select OK.

Create a maintenance checklist

To ensure that the Additive Hopper H-301B is properly repaired, you need to create a maintenance checklist that outlines the steps for fixing the problem.

  1. In the Lines group, select Maintenance checklist to identify what needs to be done.
  2. In the Maintenance checklist lines FastTab, select Add line.
  3. For line 1, in the Name field, enter Inspect wiring.
  4. In the Line details FastTab, for Instructions, enter Examine all wires.
  5. In the Maintenance checklist lines FastTab, select Add line. In the Name field, enter Disconnect all wires.
  6. In the Line details FastTab, for Instructions, enter Disconnect all wires and view connections.
  7. On the Maintenance checklist lines FastTab, select Add line. In the Name field, enter Replace frayed wires.
  8. In the Line details FastTab, for Instructions, enter Replace frayed wires as needed.
  9. In the Maintenance checklist lines FastTab, select Add line. In the Name field, enter Re-test equipment.
  10. Select Save and close the page to return to the Work order detail page.

Enter maintenance downtime

Because the Additive Hopper H-301B is part of a production line, you need to enter the maintenance downtime while the problem is being fixed.

  1. In the Asset section, select Maintenance downtime.
  2. Select New.
  3. For the From field, select the next day starting at 7:00 AM.
  4. In the To field, select the next day at 4:00 PM.
  5. Note the calculated Duration.
  6. For Maintenance downtime, select Breakdown.
  7. Close the page.
