Generate a budget proposal

After you have successfully set up the Budget proposal feature, you’ll be able to generate the budget proposals.

For example, consider an analyst who works for the demo data company Contoso Entertainment. The primary responsibility of the analyst is to collect company data and use it to generate accurate and complete estimates of what the company will spend money on.

Previously, the analyst had only been using Microsoft Excel. Additionally, they were doing all calculations manually to estimate the amount that should be allocated to each department. Now, by using the Finance insights add-in, the analyst can compile various amounts of data to generate the budget proposals and present them accordingly.

To generate these budget proposals through Finance insights, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Budgeting > Periodic > Generate budget proposal.
  2. In the Description field, enter a description of your budget proposal.
  3. Enter a From date and a To date. These dates will be the beginning and end dates of data that’s used for the prediction.
  4. Select whether you want to use Actual, Budget, or Both for your proposal.
  5. Select the budget model and budget code to use for the budget proposal.
