Prepare for the Business intelligence and analytics design workshop

Completed

Typically, the Business intelligence and analytics design workshop takes approximately two hours to conduct. The time might vary based on the level of detail that is available for review and the breadth of the overall solution. The solution architect will work with the implementation team leadership to plan the workshop based on the specifics of the solution that are being reviewed.

Ideally, on arrival to the Business intelligence and analytics design workshop, workshop participants should be as familiar as possible with the structure of the workshop and the types of topics and prerequisites that will be covered. The solution architect will provide an agenda with topics and prerequisites ahead of the workshop.

Additionally, the solution architect will prepare in advance for the workshop by reviewing existing project artifacts. Helpful project artifacts for this workshop include:

Reporting Requirements and Fit Gaps - List of the reporting requirements, categories, priority, fit-gap analysis, and solution strategies.

Business intelligence Design Blueprint - In a business intelligence and analytics solution that includes multiple Dynamics 365 apps, legacy, or services and components from other sources, it is helpful to be able to identify business intelligence and analytics data, data transformation, data warehouse, and reporting solutions.

Business intelligence and analytics design workshop participants

Guidelines to consider regarding Business intelligence and analytics design workshop participants:

  • The workshop should be attended by representatives from the customer organization and the partner organization that is assisting with the implementation. Part of the review value is providing a common understanding of the reporting solution.

  • The workshop should include the project manager and business intelligence and reporting team members/architects from the customer and the partner organization. If the customer doesn't have these roles in their organization, then the responsible technical stakeholder(s) should be involved. If the partner organization doesn't have a designated solution architect who is responsible for the business intelligence and reporting implementation, then the equivalent delivery lead, functional architect, or technical architect should be involved.
