Are you ready to start using this in your classroom today?

This activity is divided in two parts:

  • The initial check-in activity
  • The follow-up questions

First, we create a Reflect check-in to understand how our students are feeling. Once we collect the data, we ask follow-up questions and open these questions for a whole class discussion or ask individual students in private. These actions help create a safe environment where students freely talk about feelings and the strategies they use to face emotional challenges.

What are some check-in questions and their follow-up questions we can create?

  • Reflect check-in: How are you feeling right now?
    • Follow-up question for the class:
      • Can you describe what's making you feel this way?
      • Is there anything specific that happened recently that affected your mood positively or negatively?
  • Reflect check-in: How are you feeling about today´s test?
    • Follow up question for the class:
      • Are there challenges or difficulties you're currently facing that might be impacting your emotional well-being?

What strategies or activities do you find helpful in managing your emotions when you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed?

  • Reflect check-in: How are you feeling about getting the grades for the final exams today?
    • Follow up question for the class:
      • Do you think your emotional mood has impacted your academic results?
      • How can we support you when you aren’t in the mood to take a test or work on a project?
  • Reflect check-in: How are you feeling socially in this class?
    • Follow up questions for the class:
      • How can we make new friends?
      • How do you think you can find like-minded folks who share your passion for the same things?
