Manage storage
As of April 2019, Microsoft Dataverse capacity storage was optimized for relational data (database), attachments (file), and audit logs (log). New customers of Power Apps, Power Automate, and customer engagement apps (Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service, Dynamics 365 Field Service, Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys, and Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation) receive a tenant-wide default entitlement for each storage type and extra per-user subscription license entitlements. Customer organizations can purchase additional storage in 1-GB increments. Existing customers won't be affected by this change until the end of their current Power Apps or Dynamics 365 subscription, when renewal is required.
Two versions of storage reporting
The two versions for storage capacity reporting are:
Legacy capacity model - Organizations with the previous licensing model for storage. Users with these licenses will experience a single capacity for entitlement. For more information, see Legacy storage capacity.
New capacity model - Organizations with the new licensing model for storage. Users with these licenses will experience the storage capacity entitlement and usage by database, file, and log. It's scalable and reduces the need to free up storage space. For more information, see Dataverse storage capacity.
Monitor the amount of storage your organization uses
In Microsoft Power Platform admin center, a tenant-level view shows where your organization is using storage capacity.
Sign in to Microsoft Power Platform admin center as an admin.
Select Resources > Capacity > Summary tab.
View the data on the Summary page.
When you exceed the storage limit
If you exceed your storage capacity, system administrators will receive email notifications that alert them to the over-capacity usage. Additionally, a notification banner in Microsoft Power Platform admin center will display when a tenant has exceeded storage capacity.
The following admin operations won't be available when a tenant exceeds storage capacity entitlements:
- Create new environment (requires minimum 1-GB capacity available)
- Copy an environment (requires minimum 1-GB capacity available)
- Restore an environment (requires minimum 1-GB capacity available)
- Convert a trial environment to paid (requires minimum 1 GB capacity available)
- Recover an environment (requires minimum 1 GB capacity available)
- Add Dataverse database to an environment
Actions to take for a storage capacity deficit
When you have a storage capacity deficit, you can request a temporary extension, free up storage space, delete unwanted environments, or buy more capacity to be compliant with storage usage.
