SPMT 4.1

SPMT 4.1 includes two major new features; the support of SharePoint Server 2019 and SharePoint Designer workflows.

What's new in this release

  • SharePoint Server 2019. We now support the migration of SharePoint Server 2019 to Microsoft 365. You can now migrate:
    • Modern team sites & Communication sites
    • Modern site pages and news posts along with the site structure. If a page is checked out, the previously checked-in version is migrated. Comments are not migrated.
    • Files or folders with "#" or "%" in their name can be migrated. These special characters are retained in migration.
  • SharePoint Designer 2010 and 2013 workflows. SharePoint Designer workflows can now be migrated to Power Automate.

SPMT 4.0

SPMT 4.0 is a major new release, incorporating new designs and an integrated SharePoint Server assessment feature. It gives users a more streamlined and scenario driven experience.

This new release is available here: SPMT 4.0 public preview.

What’s new in this release

  • The user interface is improved to guide users get their migration job done by scenarios.
  • A new page navigation design makes it easier for users to manage migration tasks.
  • Integrated SharePoint server assessment experience streamlines SharePoint server migration experience.

Scenario driven

The new SPMT landing page presents you with straightforward entry points to three main migration scenarios:

  • SharePoint scan
  • SharePoint migration
  • File share migration

The number of currently running tasks for each scenario can give you a quick glance at the migration status.

The “add new migration” flow guides you to enter different sub-migration scenarios with clear context and user interactions. This change lets you focus on one scenario to get the configuration done faster.

Easier to manage your migration tasks

SPMT 4.0 comes with a new page navigation design that makes it easier for you to manage migration tasks.

  • Manage all migrations or scans on its own list page.
  • Utilize search and filters to locate the specific tasks.
  • View the migration progress by clicking on the name link.
  • Use the buttons on the toolbar to start, stop, delete, and edit a migration.

When you start a migration, SPMT launches a migration progress page where you can watch the status changes. Unlike previous releases, you don’t have to wait for the migration to be completed. You can just dismiss the page by clicking “Back to list” and work on other tasks in the tool.

Once the migration is completed or failed, you receive a toast message showing the status. The “See details” link brings you back to the progress page where includes details of the migration.

Assess your SharePoint Server sites directly in SPMT

SPMT 4.0 integrates SharePoint server assessment in the tool. You can assess SharePoint Server content before migration and execute migration jobs within SPMT. As with the migration experience, you can add a new scan by following the wizard and managing all your scan tasks on the scan list page.

Selecting the source URL link on the scan list page prompts you to the scan result dashboard. The dashboard presents the overview information of site inventory and potential migration risks.

Scroll down below inventory numbers, you can see breakdown by content types and risk types. An excel report can be downloaded for you to do deeper analysis.
