BigInteger.LessThan Operator (BigInteger, UInt64)

Microsoft Silverlight will reach end of support after October 2021. Learn more.

Returns a value that indicates whether a BigInteger value is less than a 64-bit unsigned integer.

This API is not CLS-compliant.

Namespace:  System.Numerics
Assembly:  System.Numerics (in System.Numerics.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Public Shared Operator < ( _
    left As BigInteger, _
    right As ULong _
) As Boolean
public static bool operator <(
    BigInteger left,
    ulong right
)

Parameters

Return Value

Type: System.Boolean
true if left is less than right; otherwise, false.

Remarks

The LessThan method defines the operation of the less than operator for BigInteger values. It enables code such as the following:

Dim number As BigInteger = BigInteger.Add(UInt64.MaxValue, 1354580242510615297ul)
If number < UInt64.MaxValue Then
   ' Do something.
Else
   ' Do something else.
End If
BigInteger number = BigInteger.Add(UInt64.MaxValue, 1354580242510615297);
if (number < UInt64.MaxValue)
{
   // Do something.
}
else
{
   // Do something else.
}

Languages that do not support custom operators can call the BigInteger.CompareTo(UInt64) method instead. They can also call the LessThan(BigInteger, UInt64) method directly, as the following example shows.

Dim number As BigInteger = BigInteger.Add(UInt64.MaxValue, 1354580242510615297ul)
If BigInteger.op_LessThan(number, UInt64.MaxValue) Then
   ' Do something.
Else
   ' Do something else.
End If
