Working with Windows Server Essentials Web Services
Applies To: Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Windows Server Essentials exposes a set of built-in web services for third-party developers to build applications on different devices that can access files and manage the server remotely. Windows Server Essentials also allows third-party developers to add their own web services without handling authentication.
Interacting with Web Services
All web services that are exposed in Windows Server Essentials are hosted in Internet Information Server (IIS) so that a user can call web services by using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS) protocol. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is required for secure communication.
The examples in this section involve a Windows Server Essentials installation and configuration at www.contoso.com. Host names such as https://servername also are used in situations in which a client trusts the associated SSL certificate (for example, in a domain-joined client).
