Windows Web Server 2008 R2 does not support remote print management through the Print Management Console

Symptoms

When a user tries to add a remote print server through the Print Management Console in Windows Web Server 2008 R2, the remote print management functionalities are not supported. Local print management remains supported and is unaffected.

Cause

Windows Web Server 2008 R2 was not designed to be use as a print server. Therefore, the various print roles are not allowed to be installed in Windows Web Server 2008 R2. While Windows Web Server 2008 R2 does not have the Print Management Console installed by default, it can be installed manually.

Workaround

There are no workarounds available at this time.
