Event ID 2511 — Shared Resource Availablilty
Applies To: Windows Server 2008
SMB (Server Message Block) is the protocol Windows uses to share files, printers, serial ports, and also to communicate between computers using named pipes and mail slots. A share must be properly referenced for it to be available.

Resolve
Remove a shared resource
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To remove a share:
- Using Windows Explorer, locate the shared folder that you want to stop sharing. Right-click that folder and then click Share.
- In the File Sharing dialog box, click Stop Sharing. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Click Done.
Verify
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To verify that the shared resource is available:
- Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
- Type net share sharename, to verify the share is properly configured on the server.
- In the list of results, confirm in the Permissions field that you have permission to access the share.
- Go to another computer on the network and verify you can access the share.
