Event ID 2511 — Shared Resource Availablilty

SMB (Server Message Block) is the protocol Windows uses to share files, printers, serial ports, and also to communicate between computers using named pipes and mail slots. A share must be properly referenced for it to be available.

Resolve

Remove a shared resource

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To remove a share:

  1. Using Windows Explorer, locate the shared folder that you want to stop sharing. Right-click that folder and then click Share.
  2. In the File Sharing dialog box, click Stop Sharing. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Done.

Verify

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To verify that the shared resource is available:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Type net share sharename, to verify the share is properly configured on the server.
  3. In the list of results, confirm in the Permissions field that you have permission to access the share.
  4. Go to another computer on the network and verify you can access the share.
