NNTP General Tab
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
Use the General tab to specify how clients connect to the NNTP service.
The General tab contains the following options:

IP address |
The IP address of the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) virtual server. |

Advanced |
Opens the Advanced dialog box where you can enable multiple IP addresses for the NNTP virtual server and configure TCP and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port numbers. |

TCP port |
The TCP port used by clients to connect to the NNTP service. You can enter any unique TCP port number. The default is port119. |

SSL port |
The TCP port used by clients to connect to the NNTP service using SSL. You can enter any unique TCP port number. The default is port 563. |

Limit number of connections to |
When the check box is selected, this option limits the number of simultaneous client connections to the NNTP virtual server. The default is 5,000 connections. |

Connection time out (minutes) |
The number of minutes before an inactive client is disconnected. The default is 10 minutes. |

Path header |
The string used for the Path line in each news posting. The Path header displays the path a news message takes to reach its destination. When a message is forwarded from a news server, a descriptive string is added to the message in the Path line. Any punctuation character except the period (.) can separate the Path header. For information about how NNTP Path statements are generated, see Request for Comments (RFC) 1036. The default value is the Domain Name System (DNS) name of the NNTP virtual server. You do not need to change the default value. |

Enable logging |
Enables logging to track users of the NNTP virtual server. The default log file directory is systemroot\System32\LogFiles\Nntpsvc1. To enable logging, you must also select the Log access check box in the Virtual Directory dialog box.
