Configuring a RIS Image

Applies To: Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003

After Remote Installation Services (RIS) is installed on the head node of your cluster, you can add, modify, or delete RIS installation images using the Manage Images Wizard.

Having more than one RIS installation image allows you to install different operating systems on your compute nodes, perhaps with different drivers, or different configurations. Modifying a RIS image allows you to update the image with a different license key and description.

To configure a RIS installation image

  1. From the RIS pane of the To Do List, click Manage Images and then click Next.

  2. On the Before You Begin page, note the actions available to you. Click Next.

  3. On the Choose Action page, select Modify image configuration, then click Next.

  4. On the Select Image page, choose an existing image to modify from the Select the image to configure drop-down box. Click Next.

  5. On the Modify Image page, you can change the image description and the image product license key. When you are finished, click Next.

  6. A View Summary page is displayed. If you are satisfied with the changes you want to make, click Finish. If you want to change anything, click Previous and alter the settings, then click Finish.

  7. A Progress page is displayed, often very briefly.

  8. A Result page is displayed and states whether the reconfiguration of the RIS image was successful.

Next steps

After updating the RIS image with a valid license key and a useful description, you can continue configuring your cluster by adding compute nodes and adding cluster users and administrators. You can perform these steps at any time by running the Compute Cluster Administrator. You can also modify the RIS image by adding missing drivers that might be required by your compute node hardware.
