Install Standard 7 Toolkit on a Development Computer (Standard 7 SP1)

You install Windows Embedded Standard 7 Toolkit on a development computer so that you can use tools to deploy and service an image, and also to develop and build an image. For information about deploying and servicing images, see Deploying Images and Maintaining Images. For information about developing images, see Building Images.
Note
The Windows Embedded Standard 7 Toolkit is a 32-bit application that you can install on both x86-based and x64-based computers. On an x86-based computer, the default file location for Standard 7 Toolkit is C:\Program Files\Windows Embedded Standard 7. On an x64-based computer, the default file location for Standard 7 Toolkit is C:\Program Files(x86)\Windows Embedded Standard 7.
Note
The Standard 7 setup process performs several verifications that rely on the date and time settings of the target device. For optimal performance, confirm that the target device is set to the correct date and time.
The first time you run Image Configuration Editor, it prompts you to provide your Image Configuration Editor product key. If you do not provide a valid product key, Image Configuration Editor begins a 180-day toolkit trial period and prompts you for a valid product key each time you start Image Configuration Editor. At the end of the toolkit trial period, you must enter a valid product key to continue to use Image Configuration Editor.
New for Windows Embedded Standard Service Pack 1: The following table shows the installation options for the Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit.
To install Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit when you already have the Standard 7 Toolkit installed: |

To install the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit when you already have the CTP Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit installed: |

To install the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit when your development machine has no previous installations of the Standard 7 Toolkit: |
From your Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit DVD, run the setup.exe command.

Important:
To uninstall the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit, run setup.exe from your Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit DVD, and then click Uninstall.
Warning
Uninstalling the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 CAB file by itself is not supported.
Note
If installation of Standard 7 Service Pack 1 is cancelled, any distribution shares that have been copied to the installation location are not removed but must instead be manually deleted.
Hardware and Software Assumptions
- The development computer meets the Requirements for a Development Computer.
- You have the Standard 7 Toolkit DVD or you have downloaded the Standard 7 Toolkit ISO image from Windows Embedded Standard 7.
To install Windows Embedded Standard 7 Toolkit on a development computer
To run the
Setup.execommand, do one of the following:If you have the Standard 7 Toolkit DVD in the DVD drive, at the command prompt, type the following, replacing <dvd_drive> with the letter of your dvd drive:
“<dvd_drive>:\Windows Embedded Studio\setup.exe”If you downloaded the setup.exe command, run it from the location where you saved it.
Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.
On the Setup Type page, do one of the following:
To install the tools and distribution share to the default location, select Complete. The default location for 32-bit is <System_Drive>:\Program Files\Windows Embedded Standard 7 and for 64-bit is <System_Drive>:\Program Files(x86)\Windows Embedded Standard 7.
To install the tools and distribution share to a different location, select Custom.
Warning
Paths to distribution shares that are greater than 90 characters may result in failures if the value of Windows max_path is exceeded. These failures can be difficult to troubleshoot; so try to use short paths and mappings to avoid this problem.
Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the installation for Standard 7 Toolkit.
