Running the RDP User Scenario Performance Test (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

The RDP User Scenario Performance Test requires an RDP server, such as a Windows XP-based desktop computer that can function as an RDP server, against which to test the Windows Embedded CE-based device. On the RDP server, you must install the WinBench 99 application, which you must license from VeriTest. For more information about WinBench 99, see this VeriTest Web site.
To run the RDP User Scenario Performance Test
Choose a Windows XP–based desktop computer to use as an RDP server.
Note
Because a Windows XP–based desktop computer that can function as an RDP server allows only one active session at a time, the RDP server should not be the development workstation that runs Platform Builder. The Windows Embedded CE–based device cannot open a Remote Desktop session to the development workstation while the session with the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Test Kit (CETK) runs.
Copy the following files from the <Platform Builder installation path>\Cepb\Wcetk\Ddtk\Desktop directory on the development workstation to the root directory on the RDP server:
- RDPServer.exe
- WB_Time.dll
- cetests.zdr

On the RDP server, run the RDPPerfConfig.exe application. You can find the RDPPerfConfig.exe file in <Platform Builder installation path>\Cepb\Wcetk\Ddtk\Desktop.
The following error message might appear:
The application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
If this error message appears, copy the Msvcr71.dll file from <Platform Builder installation path>\Cepb\Wcetk\Ddtk\Desktop to %WINDIR%\System32 on the RDP server.
On the RDP server, download and install WinBench 99 by choosing the link to the Web site provided by RDPPerfConfig.exe.
Choose the version of WinBench 99 without graphics.
On the RDP server, run the RDPPerfConfig.exe application a second time.
The RDPPerfConfig.exe application creates a test account with a user name that you specify, verifies that the WinBench 99 application is installed, and completes other tasks required to configure the RDP server to run the RDP User Scenario Performance Test.
Note
The wizard enforces password policy if there is a policy on the domain. When the wizard requests that you enter a password for the test account, enter a password that conforms to the policy. If the policy requires a strong password, you cannot proceed to the next page of the wizard unless you enter a strong password.
Log off of Windows XP on the RDP server, and then log on to Windows XP again with the user name that you specified for the test account.
The WinBench 99 application automatically starts.
Note
If a pop-up window appears for the Windows XP Tour, close the window to prevent it from reappearing later. If the window appears while the test runs, the test results are skewed by the additional time required to transfer the data that describes the window over RDP and to display the window on the target device.
Follow the steps to accept the license terms for WinBench 99, close the WinBench 99 application, and then log off of Windows XP on the RDP server.
On the development workstation, run the CETK tool.

Connect the CETK tool to the Windows Embedded CE–based device that you want to test.

On the development workstation in the CETK window, edit the command line for the RDP User Scenario Performance Test by specifying appropriate values for the -d, -u, -s, and -p parameters. For more information, see Command Line Parameters for the RDP User Scenario Performance Test.
Run the RDP User Scenario Performance Test. For more information about running a CETK test, see Running CETK Tests.
When you run the test, an RDP session starts on the Windows Embedded CE–based device and connects to the RDP server. After starting the test, you might need to again follow the steps to accept the license terms for WinBench 99. One or more dialog boxes might appear in the RDP window. If a dialog box appears, close the dialog box to continue the test.
Before running the RDP test a second time on the same Windows Embedded CE–based device, delete the run registry entry from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows key in the registry of the RDP server.
