Description of a VoIP Deployment (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

A Voice over IP telephone system typically involves VoIP phones communicating with a SIP server or servers within a corporate network. Outgoing calls are routed by the SIP server to a gateway (GW), which forwards the calls to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). In like manner, calls from the PSTN arrive at the GW and are routed through the corporate network's SIP server or servers to the appropriate IP phone. For convenience and cost savings, smaller VoIP deployments often use a combined SIP server and GW, called an IP/PBX.
