User Interface for Registry-based Policy

Administrators manage registry-based policy settings through the Administrative Templates extension to Group Policy. You must describe your policy setting types in an administrative template (.adm) file. An .adm file is a text file that specifies the registry-based policy that users modify through the Group Policy Object Editor. For more information, see Administrative Template File Format.

You must add your .adm file to the Group Policy Object Editor. To register an .adm file, select Administrative Templates from the Computer Settings or User Settings node, then select Add/Remove Templates from the Task menu. The Group Policy Object Editor displays the information contained in loaded .adm files as users navigate through the Administrative Templates node.
