Using PlayReady on Your Web App
The purpose of this guide is to introduce you to the PlayReady support for Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) in Windows 8.1. EME allows you to play PlayReady protected audio or video media content using only HTML5 and JavaScript without any additional plug-ins. Microsoft PlayReady provides a simple, easy to use framework for Windows and a browser to access your PlayReady protected content within a Web site. PlayReady works with Media Foundation, the next generation multimedia platform for Windows that enables developers, consumers, and content providers to embrace the new wave of premium content. Using EME with PlayReady on your Web app within Windows 8.1 provides an easy way to develop those pages in an industry-standard way.
This guide assumes that you are already familiar with HTML5 and JavaScript programming for Windows Store apps and browsers such as Internet Explorer. Also, you should have some experience with both PlayReady and Encrypted Media Extensions (EME). This guide provides addtional information about using PlayReady with the EME draft published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). For more information about EME, see the Encrypted Media Extensions draft.
