SharePoint Products Requirements for Team Foundation Server
Team Foundation Server doesn’t require SharePoint Products. If you want to use SharePoint Products, you must use a supported version that has the Team Foundation Server extension for SharePoint Products installed. You have multiple options:
You can use Team Foundation Server standard or advanced configuration wizards to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 on the same server as Team Foundation Server (except on Windows Server 2012, where SharePoint 2010 is not supported). The Team Foundation Server extensions for SharePoint Products are installed automatically during Team Foundation Server installation.
You can use Team Foundation Server extensions for SharePoint Products configuration wizard to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 on a different server from Team Foundation Server.
You can use Office SharePoint Server 2007, SharePoint Server 2010, or SharePoint Server 2013. If you use the Enterprise version of either of these products, you must configure it for dashboard compatibility. More on dashboard requirements below.
You can use Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Although Team Foundation Server has no service pack requirements for SharePoint Products, certain operating systems have requirements for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
Regardless of which option you choose, your SharePoint Products must meet the following requirements:

Authentication |
NTLM is the recommended authentication. Team Foundation Server Extensions for SharePoint Products does not support Basic authentication or anonymous authentication. |
¹ Supported on Windows Server 2012.
² Not supported on Windows Server 2012.
Dashboard requirements
Team Foundation Server contains dashboards that use SharePoint Products features to display team data. The dashboards that are available to you depend on the version of SharePoint Products that you install.
If you install the Enterprise editions of either Office SharePoint Server 2007 or SharePoint Server 2010, you can use five dashboards that are configured with reports that are based on Microsoft Excel.
If you install Office SharePoint Server 2007 Standard, SharePoint Server 2010 Standard or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you can use two dashboards that are configured with reports that are based on SQL Server Reporting Services.

Service pack requirements for SharePoint Products
Team Foundation Server has no service pack requirements for SharePoint Products. However, certain operating systems have requirements for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
If you are running Windows Server 2008, you must download an installation program for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 that has a service pack already added (Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 or Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008 R2). For your convenience, here are links to the 32-bit or 64-bit installation program for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 with the most recent service pack from the Microsoft website:
Although Windows Server 2003 does not have the same requirements as Windows Server 2008, the most recent service pack is recommended.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or SharePoint Server 2010 have no operating system requirements that relate to service packs and Team Foundation Server.
