Upgrade SQL Server BI Features to SQL Server 2012 SP1
This topic describes the upgrade of SQL Server Business Intelligence features to SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1). SQL Server 2012 SP1 is available as two installation packages; update and slipstream. This topic describes the corresponding workflows for these two installation packages to upgrade SQL Server Business Intelligence features. To download the SQL Server 2012 SP1 installation packages, see Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35575).
Update: Run the SQL Server 2012 SP1 Update package to apply the delta between SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 SP1 on existing SQL Server 2012 installations. The update package cannot be used to upgrade SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 or to perform a new installation of SQL Server 2012.

Slipstream: Run the SQL Server 2012 SP1 slipstream package to install new SQL Server 2012 instances without first having to install SQL Server 2012. The slipstream package also supports upgrading an existing SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 installations.

SQL Server Analysis Services
An Analysis Services server instance runs in one of three deployment modes. The following table summarizes how the SQL Server 2012 SP1 installation packages update Analysis Services depending on the deployment mode. The PowerPivot deployment mode is listed twice to differentiate the experience and installation with SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
Note: With SQL Server 2012 SP1, PowerPivot for SharePoint supports separate architectures for SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013. The new PowerPivot architecture for SharePoint 2103 includes an Analysis Services server deployed outside the SharePoint farm. The new architecture applies only to SharePoint 2013 and not SharePoint 2010. The architecture of PowerPivot for SharePoint 2010 remains unchanged. In this topic, the phrase “original architecture” refers to an Analysis Services server in SharePoint mode, installed by using the SQL Server 2012 installation media. The original SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services server has the version 11.0.2100. SQL Server 2012 SP1 updates the Analysis Services components to version 11.0.3000. You can verify the version of the Analysis Services service on the advanced properties tab in SQL Server Configuration Manager.

The package updates the SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services instance that is running in SharePoint mode. The PowerPivot configuration tool updates the PowerPivot solution files in SharePoint. Repeat the update procedures on all SharePoint servers that are running PowerPivot Services. Important The update package cannot install the new PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 architecture. To deploy the new PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 solution files in SharePoint, run the PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 Configuration tool. If the SharePoint server is separate from the server that is running Analysis Services in SharePoint mode:
Slipstream package: Run to complete one of the following:
SpPowerPivot.msi: To enhance the SQL Server 2012 SP1 PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 experience, run the SpPowerPivot.msi installer package. The .msi installs data providers, SharePoint solution packages, and the PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 Configuration tool. For more information, see Install or Uninstall the PowerPivot for SharePoint Add-in. SharePoint 2013 does not support in-place upgrade from SharePoint 2010. SQL Server Reporting Services
This section summarizes installing SQL Server 2012 SP1 and the following deployments:
SharePoint mode report servers

SharePoint mode report servers
Reporting Services SharePoint mode deployments involve two main components:
Application tier application servers or report server. In the current version of Reporting Services, the report server is a SharePoint service, running on SharePoint application servers along with one or more instances of a Reporting Services service application. Install the Reporting Services SharePoint mode report server from the SQL Server installation media. For more information, see Install Reporting Services SharePoint Mode for SharePoint 2013.
Web tier or web servers. Install the Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint products on each web server. A new version of Rssharepoint.msi released with SQL Server 2012 SP1.
Note
The new Rssharepoint.msi is compatible with previous versions of report servers. However, if you want to use Power View, then it is required that both the report server and the Rssharepoint.msi are the SQL Server 2012 SP1 version. The following table summarizes the SQL Server 2012 SP1 update and slipstream workflows related to Reporting Services in SharePoint mode. It is recommended the report servers in your SharePoint farm are all running the same version of Reporting Services.

Native mode report servers

Report Builder
A new version of SQL Server 2012 Report Builder 3.0 released with SQL Server 2012 SP1. The new version of Report Builder includes fixes but it does not include new features.
The new version of Report Builder 3.0 upgrades existing Report Builder 3.0 installations. Report Builder 3.0 does not upgrade Report Builder 2.0 but it will install side by side with Report Builder 2.0. The click-once version of Report Builder updates when you update the Native mode or SharePoint mode report server.
Report Builder 3.0 supports SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services report servers
