How to: Browse Data Using Data Source View Designer (Analysis Services)
Use Data Source View Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio to open a connection to the underlying data source and review the data for a table, view, or named query (including all named calculations).
To explore data in a data source view
In Business Intelligence Development Studio, open the project or connect to the database that contains the data source view in which you want to browse data.
In Solution Explorer, expand the Data Source Views folder, then open the data source view in Data Source View Designer by doing one of the following:
Double-click the data source view.
Right-click the data source view and click Open.
Click the data source view and then on the View menu, click Open.
Open the Explore <object name> TableDesigner in Business Intelligence Development Studio by doing one of the following:
Right-click the table, view, or named query that contains the data you want to view, and then click Explore Data.
Click the table, view, or named query that contains the data you want to view, and then click Explore Data on the Data Source View menu.
The data source underlying the table, view, or named query in the data source view are queries, and the results appear in the Explore <object name> TableDesigner. You can view the data in table, pivot table, chart, and pivot chart formats.
On the Explore <object name> TableDesigner toolbar, click the Sampling options icon.
The Data Exploration Options dialog box opens. In this dialog box you can specify the sampling method (fewer or more records than the default sampling size of 5000 rows), or states per chart.
Click OK or Cancel as appropriate.
To resample the data, click Resample Data on the Explore <object name> TableDesigner toolbar.
