Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections (Service) - SQL Server Browser

The SQL Server Browser service returns named pipe and TCP port information to client applications. Enabling this service is useful when a pipe name or port number of a named instance is unknown to client applications. If you disable this service, you may choose static ports for Database Engine named instances and then specify the port number in client connections. For Analysis Services named instances, it is best to enable the SQL Server Browser service.
