Installing Samples
The sample databases and companion samples are not installed automatically during setup. You can install the sample databases and sample code from the CD by running Setup or by downloading the most current samples from the Web.
To install samples from the CD, see Running Setup to Install AdventureWorks Sample Databases and Samples. To download samples from the Web, visit the Microsoft Download Center.
Setup installs the samples in an installer package, SqlServerSamples.msi. To extract the samples, go to the Start menu, click Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, click Documentation and Tutorials, click Samples, and then click Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples. You can also navigate to drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Samples\SqlServerSamples.msi and launch the installer using the Windows Explorer.
Unless you specify a different location, the installer installs the samples in drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Samples.
Be sure to read and follow the installation instructions in the readme files that accompany the samples you wish to use.
If you have a SQL Server 2005 samples installation currently loaded and you want to install a more recent version, you must first uninstall the current installation. To uninstall the current installation, on the Start menu, click Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples, and then click Remove.
Samples are provided for educational purposes only. They are not intended to be used in a production environment and have not been tested in a production environment. Microsoft does not provide technical support for these samples. Sample applications and assemblies should not be connected to or used with your production SQL Server database, or your report server, without the permission of the system administrator.
