Step 1: Creating Disabled User Accounts

For each user account in a user forest, you must create a corresponding disabled user account in the resource forest where Lync Server 2010 is deployed. This process varies depending on whether Microsoft Exchange Server is deployed in your resource topology.
If Microsoft Exchange Server is deployed in your resource forest, the disabled user accounts will already exist and many of the necessary attributes on the disabled user accounts will be populated. You can run a script to update the attributes that are not automatically updated by Microsoft Exchange Server.
If you do not have Microsoft Exchange Server deployed in your resource topology, or Microsoft Exchange Server is deployed in a separate forest, then you must create a custom management agent by using Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager 2010 or Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007 FP1 to synchronize the user accounts from the different forests as disabled user accounts to the forest where Lync Server is deployed. If synchronizing the users as contacts does not matter, then the LcsSync tool can be used to synchronize the users as contact objects.
