Transition From a Collocated or Stand-alone Mediation Server
Topic Last Modified: 2011-04-06
In Microsoft Lync Server 2010, the Mediation Server and the A/V Conferencing Server are unique in that they can be deployed as a stand-alone pool or server, and they can also be deployed as a service on the Front End Server or Front End pool. The following procedure explains how to transition from a collocated service to a stand-alone pool or server.
To transition a collocated Mediation Server service to a server
Log on to the computer where Topology Builder is installed as a member of the Domain Admins group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.
Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.
Expand Standard Edition Front End Servers or Enterprise Edition Front End Servers, based on where the collocated Mediation Server is defined.
Do one of the following:
For a Standard Edition Front End Servers configuration, right-click the server name and then click Edit Properties.
For an Enterprise Edition Front End Servers configuration, right-click the pool name and then click Edit Properties.
In Edit Properties, click Mediation Server on the left navigation pane, remove the association with any existing PSTN gateways by clicking the PSTN gateway, and then clicking Remove.
When you have removed the associations with all PSTN gateways, clear the Collocated Mediation Server enabled check box, and then click OK.
Expand Mediation pools, right-click Mediation pools, click New Mediation Server, and then select Multiple computer pool or Single computer pool, as appropriate for the deployment.
Do one of the following:
For a multiple computer pool, type the pool fully qualified domain name (FQDN) in Pool FQDN and then click Next. Type the computer FQDN in Computer FQDN, and then click Add. When you are finished entering the computer FQDNs of the pool computers, click Next.
For a single computer pool, type the computer FQDN in FQDN, and then click Next.
Select the Next hop pool from the list of available pools and then click Next.
If you have an Edge Server pool or Edge Server defined, select the Edge Server pool or Edge Server, and then click Next.
Create new PSTN gateway definitions or associate existing PSTN gateways with the Mediation Server as follows:
To create a new PSTN gateway definition, click New and type the Gateway FQDN or IP Address, accept or modify the Listening port for IP/PSTN Gateway, select either TCP or TLS as the SIP Transport Protocol (that is, based on the configuration of your PSTN gateways), click OK, and then click Finish.
To associate an existing PSTN gateway definition, select the existing PSTN gateway definition, click Add, and then click Finish.
Perform the procedures in Publish a Topology After a Server Role or File Share is Removed.
