Administration pages: Cannot access the pages (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint)

Issue: Cannot access the pages for Central Admin, Site Settings and Site Collections or the administration pages for keywords and managed properties in Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint.

Summary: If you are having difficulties accessing keywords, managed properties or administrator pages, check the following causes:

  • Cause 1: Certificates have not been installed properly or are no longer valid

  • Cause 2: User accounts have not been added to the FASTSearchAdministrators group

  • Cause 3: SharePoint Publishing features have not been enabled for non-publishing sites

  • Cause 4: Invalid IIS application pool credentials

Cause 1: Certificates have not been installed correctly, have expired, or have been revoked

Resolution: Check the status of your certificates

Each server in a FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint farm potentially has three certificates which serve different functions and which must be configured (and replaced) separately. In case of errors, you should check the status of your certificates.

Cause 2: User accounts have not been added to the FASTSearchAdministrators group

Resolution: Add one or several user accounts to the FASTSearchAdministrators group

Cause 3: SharePoint Publishing features have not been enabled for non-publishing sites

Resolution: Enable the SharePoint Publishing features

SharePoint Publishing features are all the features that are part of a preconfigured publishing site or that are added when publishing is enabled at the site collection and site level. When publishing is enabled, all publishing features are automatically enabled.

Cause 4: Invalid IIS application pool credentials

Resolution: Set the application pool identity and restart the application pool

Web sites and Web applications depend on the availability of Internet Information Services (IIS) application pools. IIS application pools in turn depend on the Windows Process Activation Service (WAS). If WAS is not running or errors occur during the startup or shutdown of an application pool, Web sites and Web applications may not be available.
