Install Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013

Summary: This article describes how to install and configure Discovery and Risk Assessment in your organization.

Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 is a server application that works together with Microsoft Audit and Control Management Server 2013 to identify and analyze end-user computing (EUC) applications, such as Excel workbooks and Access databases that might pose certain risks for your organization. This article describes how to install Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013.

Before you begin

Before you begin this task, review the following information about prerequisites.

  • Microsoft Audit and Control Management Server 2013 must be installed and configured in your organization. You can install Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 on the same computer where Microsoft Audit and Control Management Server 2013 is installed, or on another computer. Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012.

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 must be installed.

  • Excel 2013 and Access 2013 must be installed.

  • SQL Server Compact 4.0 must be installed. To download it, see Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0.

Install Discovery and Risk Assessment

You can install Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 on the same computer where Microsoft Audit and Control Management Server 2013 is installed, or on another computer.

To install Discovery and Risk Assessment

  1. Log onto the computer where you want to install Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 as an administrator.

  2. Download the Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 software, and then run the ediscovery.msi file.

  3. On the Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment 2013 Setup page, click Next.

  4. If you accept the terms of the license agreement, select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.

  5. On the Destination Folder page, keep or change the default location, and then click Next.

  6. Click Install.

  7. On the confirmation screen, click Finish.

At this point, Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013 is installed. However, before you can use Microsoft Discovery and Risk Assessment Server 2013, you must configure it. For more information, see Configure Discovery and Risk Assessment Server to identify and assess files.
