Command-Line Deployment of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Expanded Configuration

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is available in Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. There are two different options for setting up Enterprise Edition. The recommended option is a Consolidated configuration. The second option is Expanded configuration. Here is a summary of the different editions and options.

  • Standard Edition Setup. All components of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 are installed on one physical computer.

  • Enterprise Edition Consolidated Configuration. A dedicated computer with a Microsoft SQL Server database server as the back-end server. One computer or multiple load-balanced computers serve as Front End Servers. These servers contain all other components with the exception of Monitoring Server, Archiving Server, and Mediation Server roles, none of which can be co-located with a Front End Server.

  • Enterprise Edition Expanded Configuration. A dedicated computer with a SQL Server database server as the back-end server. A dedicated computer exists for each of the following: Application Sharing Server, Web Conferencing Server and Web Components Server, and A/V Conferencing Server. Front End Server contains all other components of Office Communications Server 2007 R2. Like the Consolidated configuration, there are also dedicated servers for Monitoring Server, Archiving Server, and Mediation Server roles.

As was mentioned at the beginning of this guide, all of these editions and configurations can be set up from the command line. However, an Expanded configuration setup is possible only from the command line. Therefore, this section describes the commands that can be used to install Office Communications Server 2007 R2 from the command line in an Expanded configuration.
