Administering Group Chat
Topic Last Modified: 2009-05-22
The Group Chat functionality in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 provides a form of collaboration in which groups of users join online chat rooms to participate in persistent, ongoing conversations centered on specific topics. Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat primarily consists of short text messages, although it can include longer messages referred to as stories, as well as hyperlinks, emoticons, and uploaded documents or images. Access to a chat room is controlled by a membership list. The entire history of chat in the chat room is available to any member for chronological review or full-text search. For details about using Group Chat, see the Evaluating Your Organization's Solution Requirements and Chat Rooms topics in the Planning and Architecture documentation.
The following topics provide an overview of the concept of categories and scope, and they describe how to use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Administration Tool and the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Server Configuration Tool to manage Group Chat Servers, services, and computers.
