Quantizing

Using a process called quantizing, you can adjust the start time and duration of notes in a part, so that they conform to a specified division of the beat.

Quantizing is often applied to notes that are recorded using real-time MIDI recording. When you record using real-time MIDI input, the start time and duration of a note may not be placed on the beat and beat division with exact precision. Quantizing moves the notes into more precise positions and regularizes their duration. For example, you might choose a group of notes that sound uneven and round them to the nearest 16th note. The start and end points of the notes are moved forward or backward to the nearest 16th-note division of the beat.

You can use quantizing to change any notes regardless of whether they were entered using the mouse, using MIDI recording, or by importing a MIDI file.
