Chord Composition Example: Placement of a Single Chord Path
The following figure shows the relationship between where chords are positioned in a chord path window and the measures of a segment in which the chords are inserted. In the figure, the segment is positioned below the Chord Path Window to align the measures in both components.
In this figure, the Signpost list uses chords from signpost groups 1 and 2. The Chord Path window has signpost chords in measures 1 and 5. The window also contains a pair of chord paths that begin at a 2CM signpost chord, pass through 2GM or 2E7, and end with 2Am or 2FM. The chords drawn from the chordmap have been inserted in measures 1 through 5 of the Chord Track.
The Signpost Track in the segment contains a group 1 marker in the first measure and a group 2 marker in the fifth measure. Because 2CM is in signpost group 1 of the Signpost list, it is inserted in measure 1 of the segment chord track. Also, because 2Am and 2FM are in signpost group 2 of the Signpost List, one of them is selected and inserted in measure 5 of the segment chord track. Either chord in the middle of the chordmap (2GM or 2E7) can fill the chord progression between signpost chords. Because there is a four-measure space between the signposts in the segment, the four-measure phrases in the chordmap fit well in the segment.
