Base Unit of Measure Field, Item Table
Specifies the unit in which the item is held on inventory. The base unit of measure also serves as the conversion basis for alternate units of measure.
You can only enter a unit of measure code that has the value 1 in the Qty. per Unit of Measure field in the Item Units of Measure window.
In the Item Units of Measure window, you can set up alternate units of measure, which you can assign to purchase, production, or sales documents to specify how many units of the base unit of measure you handle at a time in those processes. For more information, see How to: Set Up Units of Measure.
Note
You cannot change the base unit of measure code if open item ledger entries exist for the item.
