System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2

The following sections list the minimum hardware and software requirements to install and run Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2. Minimum means that later versions (such as SP1, SP2, or R2 versions) of a required software product are also supported.
System Requirements for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows Client
The following table shows the minimum system requirements for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client.
Operating system
The Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client runs on the following versions of Windows:
Windows 8 Professional or Enterprise (32-bit or 64-bit editions).
Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate (32-bit or 64-bit editions).
Windows Server 2012.
Windows Server 2008 R2.
On 64-bit editions of Windows, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client runs in WOW64 emulation mode.
Hardware resources
Hard disk space:
30 MB.
Memory:
1 GB.
Additional software
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup installs this software if it is not already present on the target computer.
Microsoft Lync 2013 or Microsoft Lync 2010 is required for instant messaging and Telephony API (TAPI).
Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 2010 is required for Outlook client integration and mail merge. Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft Office 2010, or Microsoft Office 365 is also required for budget import and export to and from Microsoft Excel and Office XML, and SharePoint links.
Note
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup can only install the Excel Add-in if Excel is present on the target computer.
Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 2010 is required for OneNote integration. However, OneNote integration is not supported for 64-bit editions of Microsoft Office 2010 running on Windows Server 2008.
Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 or Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 are required for email logging.
Reports
You run reports on Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client or on Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server. The software requirements for running reports are as follows:
Microsoft Report Viewer 2012.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Setup installs Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 if it is not already installed on the target computer.
You design and upgrade reports by using the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment. By default, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment is installed with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client. The software requirements for designing and upgrading reports are as follows:
Microsoft Report Viewer 2012
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Setup installs Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 if it is not already installed on the target computer.
Microsoft Visual Studio or Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder. The following versions and editions are supported.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Professional, Premium, or Ultimate edition
Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Professional, Premium, or Ultimate edition
Important
Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 is only supported if Microsoft Dynamics NAV is updated according to Knowledge Base article 2907585.
Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder for Microsoft SQL Server 2012
Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup installs Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 if none of the above is already installed on the target computer. Setup only installs Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 if the development environment is included in the installation.
Important
To upgrade reports, the computer must include a version Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder.
System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Web Client
The following table shows the minimum system requirements for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 web client.
Important
If you experience problems using the web client, you can try to turn off browser tools, such as translator tools that may run in the background.
Server component
Operating system (only 64-bit editions supported): Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012.
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup installs this software if it is not already present on the target computer.
Internet Information Server 7.0 or Internet Information Server 8.0. The following features must be enabled:
.NET Extensibility in IIS 7.0 or .NET Extensibility 4.5 in IIS 8.0
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup installs IIS with the required features enabled if it is not already present on the target computer.
Windows PowerShell 3.0. For other supported operating systems, see Windows Management Framework 3.0 on the Microsoft Download Center.
Report Viewer 2012.
Supported browsers

The browser must be able to install the Report Viewer ActiveX control to be able to print.

Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, and Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2012 (32-bit or 64-bit editions).
Supported with limitations:
Google Chrome 16 on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit editions).

System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Database Components for SQL Server
The following table shows the minimum system requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 database components for SQL Server.
SQL Server
The database components run on the following versions and editions of SQL Server:
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard or Enterprise.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express, Standard, or Enterprise (64-bit editions only).
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, Workgroup, Standard, or Enterprise (64-bit editions only).
The 64-bit edition of SQL Server 2012 Express is automatically installed before the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 database components by Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup if a supported SQL Server product is not already installed on the target computer.
If the operating system on the target computer does not support SQL Server 2012 Express (for example, Windows Server 2008), Setup displays a pre-requisite warning. In this case you should exit Setup and then update the operating system on the computer to one that does support SQL Server 2012 Express (for example, Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1). Then run Setup again.
Important
To install the database components on a computer that is running Windows 7, the computer must include Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), otherwise the installation will fail. In this case, there is no pre-requisite warning.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup installs this software if it is not already present on the target computer.
Windows Search must be enabled on the computer that you install the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Help Server on. If you install on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012, and Windows Search is not enabled as a file service, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 Setup adds the service. However, the changes do not take effect until the computer has restarted.

System Requirements for Automated Deployment of Microsoft Dynamics NAV on Windows Azure
Automated deployment of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 on Windows Azure by using the provisioning tools is only supported on Windows Azure virtual machines that are running Windows Server 2012. For additional requirements for specific Microsoft Dynamics NAV components, refer to the other sections in this topic.
