Add an Operating System Image
To use an operating system image for deployment, you must first add it to the image store on the head node. You can create a new operating system image from the server operating system installation media, from an installation folder available on the head node or on the network, or by capturing the image of an existing node. You can also add an existing image file to the image store, if it is available in the WIM file format.
This topic explains how to create a new image from the operating system installation files, and how to add an existing image file. For information about capturing the image of an existing node, see Capture the Image of an Existing Node.
To add an operating system image to the image store
In Configuration, in the Navigation Pane, click Deployment To-do List.
In the Deployment To-do List, under Optional deployment tasks, click Add an operating system image. The Add Operating System Image dialog box appears.
In Microsoft HPC Pack 2012, the Add Image dialog box appears.
If you want to create a new image and add it to the image store:
Click Create a new operating system image.
Type or browse to the location of the operating system installation files. This location can be a DVD containing the operating system installation, a local folder, or a network installation point where the files are located.
Type a name for the image.
To create the image, click OK.
If you have an existing image file that you want to add to the image store:
Click Load an existing operating system image.
Type or browse to the location of the existing WIM image file.
To add the image to the image store, click OK.
Additional considerations
The process of creating a new operating system image or adding an existing image can take several minutes.
You can add hardware device drivers to the operating system images in the image store. For more information, see Add Drivers for Operating System Images
