SharePoint 2010: Report Builder Appears to Hang When Connecting to a SharePoint Server (RB3)

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0 and a Report Server in SharePoint integrated mode.

Scenario

When you perform actions in Report Builder 3.0 which require browsing to a SharePoint server, it may appear Report Builder is hung on the browse action. For example, when browsing to the SharePoint server for a shared Data Source, the Select Data Source dialog displays "Loading..." and the dialog remains in that state for several minutes.

 

Work Around

In many cases if you click the Cancel button rather than wait, you will then see the Recent Sites and Servers list, and you can then click the desired server and browse to the desired folder and item.
