How to Sync Gmail on Microsoft Outlook

Step 1: Enable IMAP

If you want to sync your Gmail account with your Microsoft Outlook, the IMAP server should be enabled. To enable IMAP, log in to your Gmail account from any of the browser you are using at the moment and get in to Options. Select Mail settings from the drop-down list, where in the settings panel click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP link.

Step 2: Email Account Settings

When in the E-mail Accounts dialog box, click the E-mail tab (usually it is highlighted by default). Click the New and in the next window, click to select the radio button beside Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and press the Next to continue. Point below and click the button beside manually configure server settings or additional server types. Hit Next to proceed. In the next window, click to select Internet E-mail and press next.

** Step 3**: Account Information

In the New window, type your name and Gmail email address in the relevant field. Move to server information, click the dropdown arrow next to account type and select IMAP. Use ‘imap.gmail.com’ for incoming and ‘smtp.gmail.com’ for outgoing server. Remember! This will only works with Gmail accounts and will not work with any other free or paid email account settings.

Step 4: Enter Credentials

Under the login information tab, enter your username and password similar to your Gmail account; check on Remember password or else on every refresh it will ask for the password to pass the authentication. Click on More Settings button.

Step 5: More Settings

Click on Outgoing server tab and check ‘my outgoing server needs authentication’, then click to select ‘use same settings as my incoming server’. Move to Advanced tab and type ‘993’ for incoming and 587 for the outgoing mail server. Select SSL from the drop-down arrow next to Use the following type of encrypted connection below both the incoming servers.

Pro tip: Select TLS from the Use the following type of encrypted connection option under the Outgoing server (SMTP). To avoid facing a server timeout error when sending/receiving emails, adjust the Server Timeouts to maximum.

Hit Ok and get out of the window, Test the account setting and a test mail will be generated to your email account. Try sending one test email to check the outgoing server settings and you are good to go! Now you Gmail account is sync with your Outlook and you will be able to receive all the emails from your Gmail account to your outlook without an hassle.
