Chess and Checkers
Microsoft Surface technology enhances the traditional chess and checkers experiences in several ways. Unlike a real board, you don’t have to spend the first few minutes setting up all the pieces. And you don't have to know the rules--when you select a piece, the board tells you where the valid moves are.

With Chess and Checkers, you can:
Customize the background, the board, the animations, and even the pieces.
Rotate, move, resize, or lock the game board.
Play against artificial intelligence with multiple difficulty levels--you can even have the computer play itself.
Flick the captured pieces on the sides of the game board.
Turn the rules off to make up your own game.
Bounce the pieces off of real, physical objects that are placed on the Microsoft Surface screen.
Tiles
Tiles is a simple tile-matching game that is enhanced for a multiuser 360-degree interface. It demonstrates how Microsoft Surface uses massive multitouch, the large screen, and the horizontal form factor to enable new multiuser, social experiences.

With Tiles, you can:
Display a 360-degree user interface that opens from any direction, moves to face you, expands, contracts, and closes.
Compete against up to seven players.
Rotate the flowers around the screen that spin if you would rather watch than play.
Ribbons
Ribbons is a casual paint-like experience for multiple users that is possible only because the Microsoft Surface technology enables multiuser, multitouch, and object recognition scenarios. Ribbons does not include rules, a particular framework, or UI controls. It is a simple application that lets users play; it promotes social interactions by inviting others to join in a safe and non-intimidating way.

With Ribbons, you can:
Draw a ribbon with your finger and watch Ribbons repeatedly redraw the pattern at the same speed across the screen. Try signing your name or drawing a car.
Invite multiple people to join in. You are limited only by how many people can gather around the unit.
Place objects on the screen (such as your hand, a mug, or a business card) and watch the ribbons swarm around the object.
