Windows Server: Known Compatibility Issue with Mac Lion OS

For Mac client version lower than OS X 10.7 (Lion), you can configure the Mac time machine using Mac UI, and backup to a SMB share on the server. The Launchpad will display the time machine status.
Known issue
Following are known issues that occur on MAC OS X 10.7 (Lion) that is connected to SBS 2011 Essetials, WHS 2011, or Windows Storage Server 2011 R2 Essentials :
- No Time Machine Backup under Server share folder.
- Lion requires AFP 3.3 for backup remotely. And SAMBA supported has been dropped. That means you cannot use your server’s network share folder to store the time machine backup.
- To workaround this issue, you can use other network share folder that supports AFP 3.3 or local / external disks for time machine backup.
- No alert when automatic software update for Mac Lion is disabled
- If the automatic software updates is not enabled, the Launchpad will report alert in Snow Leopard OS but it will not report such issue in Lion.
- For Lion, the automation software update is turn on by default.
- To workaround this issue, you can check your setting by accessing Software Update under System Preferences, turn it on / off by select / unselect the check box.
- No alert when software update is available
- If there is software updates available, the Launchpad will report alert in Snow Leopard OS but it will not report such issue in Lion. In Lion, if you turn on the automation software update, there will be Software Update dialog shown if new updates are available.
- To workaround this issue, you can check it manually by clicking the "Check Now" button in Software Update under System Preferences.
- "Remember me on this computer" in Launchpad may not work after login and logout several times.
- If you check the “Remember me on this computer” in Launchpad and login and logout several times quickly, the user name in the login page will be lost.
- To workaround this issue, You can re-enter the user name and password to login the server again.
