BizTalk Server 2010: Pricing and Licensing

Introduction

The BizTalk Server 2010 editions are designed to address customers' diverse needs. Customers interested in building connecting their business applications or bridge gap between their business partners can leverage BizTalk Server. BizTalk Server also provides RFID and Sensor platform along with adapters to various Line of business applications.

BizTalk can be used in the development of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Business Process Management (BPM) scenarios. To address a range of scenarios, the product is now offered four core editions: Enterprise, Standard, Branch, and Developer. BizTalk Server 2010 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, and Branch Edition are all licensed on a per processor basis. A processor license is required for each processor on which you install any component of BizTalk Server (for example, BizTalk Server Rules Engine). However, certain tools and components may be installed on a separate device without acquiring a processor license. These components are explained in more detail in the BizTalk Server 2010 Pricing and Licensing Frequently Asked Questions.

In addition to core BizTalk Server Editions there is BizTalk RFID Enterprise edition to help customers who are only interested in RFID deployments and BizTalk Adapter Pack which customers can leverage for line of business connectivity from custom .NET applications.

Pricing per CPU

BizTalk Server 2010 ENT will naturally use all of the CPUs in the server. The number of BizTalk Server 2010 ENT licenses that must be purchased is always the exact number of CPUs in the server, except for processors that are made inaccessible to any operating system copy upon which BizTalk Server 2010 is set up to run (through hardware partitioning solutions).

The BizTalk Server 2010 STD engine can technically use only two processors on the server, even if it consists of more processors. For deployments where BizTalk Server 2010 is used, you need to buy the same number of processor licenses that Windows Server will utilize on that server. For example, if you have BizTalk Server 2010 STD installed on a four-processor server and the Windows operating system is utilizing all four processors, because the server’s performance is benefiting from all four processors running the operating system, you need to purchase four licenses of BizTalk Server 2010 STD.
