RDS Troubleshooting: Event ID: 1048 - Terminal Service Start Failed.

Background

We weren´t able to connect server through RDP no matter what, we disabled firewall, AV, restarted services etc.. all in vain !

Check the event viewer and if you see Event ID: 1048,

“Terminal Service start failed. the relevant status code was No such interface supported”

Follow the instructions below to fix the issue :

Execute below commands as it is from command prompt ( in case of Windows 2008/R2, Run as Administrator )

  • net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Network Service" /add
  • net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add

Reboot the machine. 

Now you should be able to connect to a server through Remote Desktop Connection.
