Outlook Troubleshooting: Outlook needs password but password option does not show

Introduction

When you're user account expires in AD or Azure AD, or when you change your user password, and then start the Outlook client, you see a message in the interface in the below right corner:

(keylock icon) need password.

Application View

 

Issue

When you click the "need password" message nothing happens.

When you click the "Send/Receive" menu you see an option "Enter password", but when you click the icon, it quickly flips but it you do not get the window to enter your password.

 

Troubleshooting

Enter password / force sync

 

Restart outlook

Log out/Log in on Windows

 

Start outlook in safe mode

 

Repair outlook in Control Panel
