Edge: How to Control Automatic Download of Chromium based Edge
Introduction
Microsoft has already announced that general availability of the new Microsoft Edge is expected January 15, 2020. So, it will be downloaded through Windows Update and will be installed automatically. As this new browser is Chromium based so a user will find similarities with Google Chrome.
If you like to block installation of this new browser on your system then you can do that.
Steps to Follow
- In Start Search type Regedit and hit the Enter Key.
- Select Run as Administrator.
Accept UAC.
Now locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft
Create a New key by right clicking on a blank area selecting New -> Key Name it as EdgeUpdate.
Now Create a New DWORD (32-bit value) by right clicking on a blank space. Give a name DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium
- Put value=1: Distribution is blocked.
- Put value=0: Distribution is not blocked.
- If you do not define: Distribution is not blocked.
Close Registry Editor.
