Windows 10: How To Enable the old-style Alt + Tab

Some users do not like the new GUI of the Windows 10 Alt + Tab applications' switching and could prefer to use the old style look and feel.
This can be achieved by performing a small change in the Windows Registry.

NOTE: manipulating the Windows Registry could lead to application or OS problems. Take a Registry backup before doing any change and be extremely careful: Microsoft does not provide any support for any problem due to wrong Registry manipulations.

To enable the "old style" Alt + Tab applications switching GUI, perform the following operations

  1. open the Windows Registry Editor and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
  2. create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AltTabSettings and set its value to 1
  3. sign out from your Windows session and sign again (or reboot your PC) for the change to become effective
