Microsoft O365: Migration Process In All Scenarios
MIGRATION:
Well, migration can be done in two ways:
- Local Move
- Remote Move
Generally, Local Move is done in the scenario when old mailbox got corrupted or any files which are missing in the mailbox. To overcome any such problem we can easily do a Local Move migration.
Remote Move consists of Five Types:
- IMAP
- Cutover
- Staged
- Hybrid(Remote)
- PST
So, all of these five categories is followed in different scenarios:
IMAP generally used in the scenarios when we have to migrate from:
- Any Exchange Environment to an O365 cloud.
- Any third-party server to O365 cloud.
- From any tenant to another tenant.
Cutover generally used in the scenarios when we have to migrate:
- From Exchange server 2003 and above.
- No tenant to tenant migration is possible.
- No third-party Exchange server migration is possible.
- Only support up to 2000 users migration.
Staged migration is generally used in the scenarios when we have to migrate:
- From Exchange 2003 and 2007 Exchange server to O365 cloud Environment.
- No tenant to tenant migration is possible.
- No third-party Exchange server migration is possible.
Hybrid migration is generally used in the scenarios when we have to migrate:
- From 2010 SP3 and above Exchange server to O365 cloud environment.
- No tenant to tenant migration is possible.
- No third-party Exchange server migration is possible.
Last but not the least PST migration support for all scenarios.
