How to Migrate Windows User Profiles to a New Account, a New Pc, or New Domain.
Historic information
For many years it has been possible to transfer user profiles with Windows Easy Transfer (also commonly known as "WET") However, with the release of windows 10 Microsoft decided to stop the development of WET. Behind WET was in reallity MS USMT , still the reference profile migration tool used in MDT and SCCM for automated migrations.
Requirements
All you really need is MS USMT (User State Migration Tool) that is part of the Windows ADK, free to download.
Read much more about USMT at the MS USMT Reference pages and check out here how to run USMT from the command line.
Alternatively use one of the easy-to-use GUI's for USMT!
What USMT DOES
USMT simply copies user profiles and local accounts from one PC to another or from one Domain to another. And between Windows versions.
USMT will migrate from Win XP, Vista, Win 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 to Win 7, 8, 8.1 or 10.
Local to domain, Domain to Domain, Domain to Local, from one user name to another etc.
