<file name> has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

Cause

  • A device driver is not compatible with the operating system you are attempting to install the driver on.
  • When installing a 32-bit application, the application attempts to install a 32-bit device driver on a 64-bit operating system.

Device drivers designed for the 32-bit version of Windows don't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows.
Drivers are also blocked if there are known compatibility issues which could cause blue screens of death, system stability and performance issues. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. To learn how to check for drivers, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly or go to the device manufacturer's website.  You can also get information about drivers by going to the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor webpage.

User Action

  • Contact your software vendor or  OEM to obtain updated drivers which are known to be compatible with the 32-bit or 64-bit operating system you are using.
  • If your computer system came with a device driver installation CD, check to make sure there are 64-bit drivers available in lieu of the 32-bit device drivers.
