SharePoint 2016 Visio Graphic Service Common Issue

This article brings couple of common issues one can face while using the Visio Graphic service in SharePoint 2016

Issue # 1

Error

You are trying to open visio diagram in the browser but it only give you the option to Save or Open in local Visio Client program.Like this.

Reason

If you notice to the image and you will see that you uploaded the VSD file not VDW. only vdw is supported file type for the Visio Graphic Services.

Resolution

In order to open the visio diagram in Browser using the Visio Graphic Service, we have to use the vdw (Visio Web Drawing).

Issue # 2

Error

Once you open an existing Visio diagram and click on the Refresh, following Error occurred.

Or If you upload a fresh Visio Diagram to the SharePoint and Click on it. You will get the following Error.http://krossfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/2016-07-31_22h46_20.jpg

Reason

One of the Reason is Visio Graphic Service instance is stopped. Please login on the Central admin > System Settings > Manager Service on Server. On this Page Please make sure, Visio Graphic Service is started.

Resolution

Please login on the Central admin > System Settings > Manager Service on Server. On this Page Please make sure, Visio Graphic Service is started. 

  1. Click on **System Settings **then **Manager on Services on Server **under the Servershttp://krossfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/2016-07-23_00h38_30.jpg
  2. On Service on Server Page.
  3. Select the Server on which this service Should run (As a recommendation, it should run to Application server).

Issue # 3

Error

Or upload a new Visio Document and you ends up with the following Error.http://krossfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/2016-07-31_22h44_12.jpg

Reason

Main reason for this error as you can see even in the error message is Visio Graphic Service Proxy is not associated with the Web App where your Site collection is provisioned.http://krossfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/2016-07-31_23h07_36.jpg

Resolution

To fix this issue, Please follow the steps below.
