Secondary ringer never rings on Skype for Business 2015 client
Issue: Secondary ringer never rings on Skype for Business 2015 client.
Problem statement: When a user on a call and using their Headset, if another call comes in and users are not able to hear a ringer on their laptop speaker because the headset is plugged in. Even though they have a secondary ringer setup.
This issue reported by users in S4B client training.
Resolution:
When Skype for Business users setup up more than one audio device chooses to set both to ring when they get a call. (Under Secondary Ringer, select Also ring, and then selecting an additional device). However, the call never rings to the secondary device.
Example: An audio device as “headset” and secondary ringer selected to the laptop speaker. However, this laptop speaker is never rung when we get calls.
You can fix this using the Sound setting from Windows OS.
Click on Start > Search> Sound > under ‘Playback’.
Right-click on ‘Speakers / Headphones’ (secondary audio device) and select ‘Set as Default Device’ in order to get selected as default.
After you make both audio devices as default device then it will look like below:
Note: Make sure you have selected audio device as ‘Headset’ and secondary ringing device selected as Speaker / Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio) laptop speaker. Like below screenshot.
Now when you receive a call on the Skype for Business or Lync client it will get a ring on both audio device (Headset and Laptop speaker) so the user will not miss their important calls.
