Unable to retrieve vault information from Azure Site Recovery

Symptom

While trying to register your Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Provider you get an error like "Unable to retrieve vault information from Azure Site Recovery"

Error message

Unable to retrieve vault information from Azure Site Recovery. This could be due to internet connection failure or invalid/expired vault credentials file. Verify the proxy settings, regenerate the vault credentials file and retry the operation with the updated credential file.

Resolution

The error happens when the Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Provider tries to query the Service for all Vaults associated with a given vault credential file and the query returns no vaults. The possible causes for getting into this issue is        

  1. The server is unable to communicate with the Service because
    • The Proxy Setting is not correct
    • Your organization uses a firewall that blocks URLs, ensure that your firewall has exception for the Service URLs
  2. The provided vault credential file is invalid or expired. (Vault credentials files are valid only for 5 days from the day it was downloaded)
  3. The system clock on your server is not in sync with the time for your time zone.  
  4. You are using an older version of the Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Provider. Latest version of the Provider can be downloaded link on the portal.
