Windows 10: How to Reserve Your Free Upgrade
Many people are using Windows 7.1 (SP1) or, Windows 8.1 may have noticed a white Windows flag icon in the notification area on the right side of taskbar. This is Get Windows 10 icon.
How have you got this icon?
It has come via Windows update. KB3035583 is a Windows Update which is responsible for this. “This update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user. It applies to a computer that is running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1).”
What does this icon do?
Microsoft is offering Windows 10 as a free upgrade from Windows 7.1 & 8.1 for the first 12 months. If you right click on Get Windows 10 icon you will get the following options:
If you just click on Get Windows 10 icon you will get a pop up window of Get Windows 10.
Now click on Reserve your upgrade. You will get two options, either you may opt to receive an email confirmation, or you may simply select the Skip email confirmation option. Your Windows 10 upgrade is reserved. To view this right click on Get Windows 10 icon and select go to Windows Update.
If you like to cancel:
Click on Get Windows 10 icon in the notification area on the right side of the taskbar.
Click on the 3 Hamburger lines present in the top left corner and select View Confirmation.
Click on Cancel reservation, to cancel your upgrade. Remember you can always reserve your upgrade anytime.
